Q: How do I get Yoono?
Getting Yoono is easy - you can download Yoono directly from
Yoono.com, or find us in the
Firefox Add Ons
or Internet
Explorer Add Ons
directories. Downloading and installing is easy - just click on one of the download buttons on the Home Page (for browser add on or desktop version) or click on the "Browser Add-on" or "Desktop" links at the top of the page to get started.
Q: How do I get started using Yoono and hooking up my social networks and instant messaging services?
Once you've installed Yoono, the sidebar will open and you will see icons for each service that
Yoono supports. Simply click on the service you want to connect Yoono to and you'll be guided
through the process of connecting your services. Note that for Facebook it is recommended that
you select the "Keep me logged in" checkbox on the Facebook sign in page to prevent needing to
sign in daily.
Q: Which browsers and which platforms (Windows, Mac, etc.) does Yoono support?
Yoono is available as either a browser add-on or a standalone desktop application. The browser add-on works with Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer version 7 and 8. We do not currently support Safari or Google Chrome but plan to do so in the future. Yoono Desktop version is supported on Windows and Mac (Intel based Macs only). Linux support for desktop is planned but Linux users can use Firefox and the add-on version today.
Q: Do I have to register to use Yoono? How do I create an account?
Yoono registration is optional but allows you to create a password which you can use to sign in and out of Yoono for enhanced privacy and security (handy if you use Yoono on a shared computer). To register, click on the registration link below the social network and IM icons on the set up screen during installation. You can access the set up screen after installation via the main menu - select "Manage Social Networks/IMs".
Q: I forgot my username or password, how do I recover it?
If you originally provided an email address when you registered, you can click on
the forgot password link within the login flow. Click on the forgot password link,
enter the email address you registered with, and Yoono will send you your login
information to that address. If you did not provide an email address when
registering, you will need to re-register.
Q: When are you going to add other social networks and IM services to your supported list?
We are always looking to add additional social networks and IM services to Yoono and
are actively working on new ones. Our goal is to support the most popular services
out there and the ones you care about most. Have one that you'd like to see? Let
us know by clicking the Feedback tab on this page.
Q: Where do I go to get support?
If you don't see an answer to your question in the FAQ, you can search for answers to your
question in the search widget on this page or visit our custom support page
powered by Get Satisfaction to ask us a
question - you may find the answer there already but if not, we promise to answer it
promptly!
Q: I have a custom theme for Firefox and am unable to see the add widget box. How do I fix this?
Some Firefox themes have bugs that prevent them from working properly with add-ons such as Yoono.
We have created fixes ourselves for these themes and you can download them here:
Q: I have lots of Firefox Add-Ons already installed - will Yoono conflict with any of them?
We've tested Yoono with many other popular add-ons but of course there are lots of add-ons
for Firefox so it is impossible to test them all. The only conflict we are currently aware of
is with the "NoScript" add-on which causes the Yoono Share feature to not work correctly.
If you discover other incompatibilities, please let us know so that we may try to find a
solution to the issue.
Q: Does Yoono store my login information for my social networks and instant
messaging services?
Yoono only stores this information when necessary to automatically log you on to the
particular service(s) you have provided login information for. If a service provides
a way to log you in via Yoono without storing this information (Facebook, MySpace,
Twitter, and Friendfeed for example allow this), we use that method. If the service
does not provide this capability (IM services for example), then we store your login
information, solely for the purpose of automatically logging you in to the service
when you launch Yoono. In each case, Yoono provides the most private and secure
option possible given the limitations of the services you are connecting to.
Q: Does using the Yoono Discovery widget mean my web browsing is being recorded by
Yoono?
The Discovery widget shows you related websites, videos, images, and more based
on the web page you are viewing. In order to do this, keywords are extracted from
the page you are viewing and sent to Yoono, along with the URL, without any
personally identifiable information. This anonymous browsing data is used to send
back related info shown in the Discovery widget and as a way for Yoono to
continually improve recommendations.
Q: I still have questions about privacy and usage terms - where can I read your Privacy
Policy and/or TOS?
Absolutely. Please read our Privacy Policy and
Terms of Use for additional
information and detail.
Q: One or more of my social networks or IM services keeps disconnecting - how do
I fix this?
Yoono is committed to making sure the connections to your services work flawlessly.
Occasionally services become disconnected due to outages with the third party
services or within Yoono itself. We try to fix these outages as quickly as
possible though sometimes we are dependent upon the service you are connecting to
come back online. If you experience a disconnect, let us know on our
Get Satisfaction support page as
it will help us troubleshoot these issues.
Q: I use Yoono on a shared computer - is there a way to sign out?
Yoono 7 includes the ability to log out of Yoono which disconnects you from all your services - from the Main Menu in Yoono select "Sign Out". If you are using a shared computer we recommend making sure you register your Yoono account so that logging back into Yoono is password protected. We do not support multiple Yoono accounts on the same machine though we may do so in the future. We recommend you use the User Profiles capability on your computer (i.e. Windows or OS X profile) to use Yoono with different accounts. If you are a Firefox user, you can also set up individual user profiles for Firefox only if that better meets you needs.
Q: Does Yoono support multiple accounts for services like Twitter?
Yes, Yoono supports multiple accounts for most of the social networks we support, including Twitter. We do not currently support multiple accounts for IM services but are working on it! To add multiple accounts for a service, go to the set up screen (select "Manage Social Networks/IMs" from the Main Menu) and for services you already have connected to Yoono, select the green button with drop down arrow. You will see the ability to add or remove accounts for that service.
Q: Can I set up Groups of users to filter my stream within Yoono?
Yes, Yoono allows you to create groups of users across services (i.e. a Yoono group can have members from Facebook, Twitter, etc.). To add a user to a group or create a group, select the "More" link on any update and select "Group". Alternatively, from the Main Menu select "Options" - within the Options panel for each service you will see a "Groups" tab where you can create or add to groups.
Q: Can I change my username?
Yoono currently does not support changing your username.
Q: Is there a way to turn off or configure the pop up alerts that appear in the lower right hand corner of my screen?
Yes, simply select "Options" directly from the pop up alerts window to configure your alerts. You can turn off these notifications or change the amount of time they display. Additionally, in the Options panel (select "Options" from the Main Menu) you can manage these alerts individually for each service (Facebook, Twitter, AIM, etc.).
Q: How can I tell if the version of Yoono I am using is the latest and greatest?
If you are using Firefox, from the Firefox menu select Tools>Add-ons. In the add-ons dialog, click "Find Updates" - if there is a newer version of Yoono Firefox will let you know. If you are using Internet Explorer, from the drop down menu on the Yoono icon on the IE main toolbar, select "Check for updates". If you are using Yoono Desktop, simply select "Check for Updates" from the Main Menu.
Q: I'd like to know what Yoono is up to and when new products are released - are
you guys on Twitter, Facebook or Myspace?
There are a bunch of ways to stay up to date on Yoono - pick the one that's most
convenient for you:
Q: I want to suggest an idea to improve Yoono. Where can I do that?
Click the "Feedback" tab you see on this and other pages on yoono.com or visit our
Get Satisfaction
powered support page to give us an idea, see ideas submitted by other users, find an answer to a
question you have, or just give us props!
Q: How do I uninstall Yoono and/or delete my account?
To uninstall the Yoono browser add-on, simply click on the drop down menu arrow next to the Yoono button on your browser's main toolbar and select "More>Uninstall Yoono". For Yoono Desktop Windows version, you can uninstall from the Windows Start menu. For Mac, simply drag the program icon to the trash. You will be guided through the uninstall process and will have the option of deleting your account when you finish.
Q: What does the profile selector by the URL bar of my browser do in the add-on version of Yoono?
The profile selector lets you know which account you are currently signed in to on a particular browser tab. This is necessary to distinguish accounts when you have multiple accounts for a particular service set up (for example more than one Twitter account). You can use it to toggle between accounts within a particular browser tab. Select "Home" to load the home page for the selected service, logged in with selected account. Select "switch to" to reload the page you are currently viewing with a particular account - this can be used for example on websites with Facebook connect support to log you in automatically.
